Dear colleagues
I am the national delegate of Luxembourg to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions (MSCA), a prestigious funding scheme by the European Commission to finance postdoctoral research projects. Researchers from any country of origin are eligible and there is no age limit. You can find more information on the MSCA fellowship but I am also happy to answer any questions you might have.
I am contacting you because we are helping one of our clients, active in your field of research, to find the most promising postdoctoral candidates that would be willing to apply for such a prestigious individual MSCA fellowship at the host institute in Luxembourg. You will find more details on the host and the project below. I am asking you to forward this expression of interest to any potential PhD students finishing their thesis before September 2019 or postdoctoral fellows looking for new opportunities in a state-of-the-art research facility in Luxembourg. Luxembourg has a young research community that has grown considerably over the past 10 years due to a strong commitment by our government to invest in research and development.
Any interested candidates can directly contact me and I will put them in contact with the principal investigator. Please get in contact as soon as possible (deadline April 30th) to have enough time to develop an exciting research project together with the host. An application to the MSCA scheme would entail writing a research proposal together with the host institute. We will support the proposal writing free of charge through trainings and writing support if needed. The deadline for the submission of the final proposal is in September 2019, the project would start around mid-2020. The fellowship includes a salary, travel and training costs as well as a family allowance if applicable.
Information on the host institute in Luxembourg: Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a mission-driven Research and Technology Organization (RTO) that develops advanced technologies and delivers innovative products and services to industry and society. As a major engine of the diversification and growth of Luxembourg’s economy through innovation, LIST supports the deployment of a number of solutions to a wide range of sectors, including energy, information technology IT, telecommunications, environment, agriculture, and advanced manufacturing of materials at national and European level. Thanks to its location in an exceptional collaborative environment LIST accelerates time to market by maximizing synergies with different actors, including the university, the national funding agency and industrial clusters. It is formed by three departments: The “Environmental Research & Innovation” (ERIN), The “IT for Innovative Services” (ITIS) department and The “Materials Research and Technology” (MRT) department, where the present project will be developed. With over 150 permanent and non-permanent employees, The MRT department focuses its activities on advanced materials and nanotechnologies. MRT translates cutting edge materials research into applicable technology. Its research and technology activities target two main areas: nanomaterials and nanotechnology, and sustainable polymeric materials.
Potential ideas for the project: The research stream of Biobased Polymers and Materials lead by Dr Habibi is working across many branches of the sustainable production of materials from renewable resources including the design of new bio-derived polymers and natural nano-sized fillers, development of high-performance nanocomposites from lignocellulosic materials, biomass conversion technologies toward functional and intelligent polymers and materials, and the application of novel analytical tools to biomass. The project idea we are seeking to develop is on the subject of optically active films with high mechanical performances based on renewable buildings blocks and using green chemistry.
I will happily answer any further questions that you might have.
Best regards
Charles Betz, PhD
