Περίληψη:
String theory is one of the major candidates for a quantum description of gravity. I will discuss some of the difficulties one encounters in the attempt to formulate such a description and some of the related challenges in the framework of string theory.

Ο Δρ. Ιωάννης Φλωράκης είναι επίκουρος καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Φυσικής του Πανεπιστήμιου Ιωαννίνων. Εκπόνησε τη διδακτορική διατριβή του στην Ecole Normale Superieure στο Παρίσι και εργάστηκε ως μεταδιδακτορικός ερευνητής στο CERN Theory Division, το ινστιτούτο Max Planck στο Μόναχο, καθώς και ως Lagrange fellow στο Πανεπιστήμιο Pierre et Marie Curie στο Παρίσι.
