Περίληψη:

The LASER Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) is a space born gravitational-wave detector scheduled to be launched in the early 2030s. LISA is comprised by a constellation of three satellites forming a triangle with sides of 2.5 million kilometres in a heliocentric orbit. It aims to measure Gravitational Waves originating from sources in the 0.1mHz to 100 mHz band via means of laser interferometry. The complex nature of LISA had driven the ESA to approve a precursor technology demonstration mission, the LISA Pathfinder (LPF). LPF was launched in 2015, tested all key technologies and characterised the various noise disturbances on the test-masses inside the space-craft. The success of LPF and the timely Gravitational Waves detection by LIGO, accelerated the LISA mission approval, while at the same time the community has been growing exponentially. In this talk I will present the status of the LISA, and how it inherits the success from LPF. In addition, the key issues that have to be addressed to extract the full science potential from the data will be discussed.
