Purpose of the Course
The purpose of the MSc is to train specialized scientists with interdisciplinary education and high-quality theoretical and experimental education on issues of new cutting-edge materials, which includes issues of development, properties, characterization, selection and optimization of materials, business skills, management and transfer of know-how. Graduates of the MSc have a solid background of theoretical and experimental knowledge, which is necessary for the understanding and formalization of advanced principles in the development, properties, technology of materials and their applications, environmental and social impacts and sustainable development, and are able to meet the needs of research centers, universities and R&D departments of industry and production bodies both in Greece and in Greece. and the European Union.
The Study program
The curriculum focuses on functional materials with innovative properties for high-tech applications. The curriculum of the MSc promotes the critical investigation of scientific thinking on materials issues, the methodology for the experimental and theoretical investigation of new materials, the valid analysis of research results, the evaluation of scientific hypotheses and the systematization of scientific proposals.
The MSc Diploma is awarded after successful study of 3 semesters (90 ECTS). Attendance of courses, workshops and seminars is mandatory.
Infrastructure
For the education of postgraduate students, the research infrastructure of the schools of Physics, in departments of Condensed Matter and Materials and Applied Physics & Environmental Physics as well as collaborating Laboratories in Universities and Research Centers of Greece and the European Union is used. Students also have access to laboratories of collaborating laboratories abroad, to which they gain access through ERASMUS+ mobility programs for studies or internships.
Tuition fees
For the study of the MSc Course, there is no payment of tuition fees or registration fees.
Admission to the MSc Course: The maximum number of admissions is set at sixteen (16) per year. Candidates must be holders of first-cycle university degrees from University Departments or Faculties of Greece or abroad, as specified in the annual call for the admission of students. The announcement of the positions in the MSc is announced by the School of Physics.
Selection criteria: A sound knowledge of the English language is required (it is certified by examination or possession of a certificate). The selection criteria of candidates include the degree grade, the duration of obtaining a 1st cycle degree in relation to the minimum required, the grade in undergraduate courses related to the MSc, the performance in the Bachelor's or Diploma Thesis, where this is provided for in the first cycle of studies, or other assignments. In addition, publications, papers, other degrees, other postgraduates, knowledge of foreign languages (other than English), research experience, professional experience, etc. are counted.
Note that applications are also accepted from candidates who are going to complete their undergraduate studies during the September examination period.
Professional Employment
It is an educational program that leads to the acquisition of a Postgraduate Diploma (MSc), with emphasis on the education and specialization of its students in the study, combined with the technological utilization, of materials in order to create graduate materials scientists, capable of meeting the requirements of the modern labor market and society on issues related to research. study, management, consulting, application and service development.
