In 1925 the University of Thessaloniki was founded, including the Faculty of Natural Sciences. The faculty is divided into Schools, with respect to subjects and accepted its first students in 1928. In 1939 the Divisions of the University were determined and in 1954 the University of Thessaloniki was renamed Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
The School of Physics was founded in 1982 and the following year the Faculty of Sciences was established, which included the School along with those of Chemistry, Biology, Geology and Informatics. In 1983 the 5 Sectons were established:
and in 1987 their subjects are defined.
In this context, a series of festivities begins in 2024-25 for the 100th aniversary of the School of Physics establishment in 1928.
