Founded in 1959, the annual London International Youth Science Forum is a two-week residential course held at Imperial College London. Our aim is to unite outstanding talent in science and engineering from all nations and provide a deeper insight into science and its applications for the benefit of all mankind. LIYSF attracts 500 of the world’s leading young students, aged 16-21 years old, from more than 75 participating countries and will be held 26th July to 9th August 2017 - www.liysf.org.uk

LIYSF 2017 will explore the future developments in the sciences with leading scientists, engineers, dignitaries and industry pioneers giving lectures throughout the event. The Forum will cover all areas of science, but the underlying theme this year will be “Science - Making Life Better”. Recent former speakers include, Professor Romain Murenzi, Professor Ada Yonath, Professor Lord Winston, Professor Mark McCaughrean, Professor Sir Roy Anderson, Lord Browne of Madingley, Professor John Ellis (CERN) and Sir Colin Terry to name a few. Current and past Presidents of LIYSF include Professor Richard O’Kennedy, Lord Briggs, Lord Ritchie Calder, Dame Kathleen Londsdale and founding Patron the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillip HRH. Alongside the range of main plenary lectures, students are also able to tailor their programme to suit their own STEM interests, with four days dedicated to specialist lectures where students can choose four lectures from thirty-two on offer.

A key element of our programme includes opportunities to visit industrial sites, research centres, scientific institutions and organisations, inc! luding world-class research institutions and laboratories. These visits include university departments at, Imperial, UCL, King’s, Oxford and Cambridge, as well as Airbus, Rolls Royce, National Oceanography Centre and Culham Science Center, to name a few.

There is an active social calendar with events designed to enable those from around the world to learn about different cultures, for example:- Debates, International Cabaret - Cultural Showcase Performance Evening and Traditions of Home - Sharing World Customs and Fashion.  The scope of LIYSF extends further than broadening scientific understanding to engage students in education on other cultures and develop lasting, international friendships.
