PC Lab

The School of Physics operates its own Computer Center featuring an array of ~25 physical computer servers supporting ~65 virtual machines and ~150 virtual (web) hosts . Its core facilities are:

  • Network:  10Gigabit backbone , DNS, Firewalls
  • Servers – DataCenter: Virtualisation (KVM),  Distributed data storage (CEPH)
  • User management – ΑΑΙ infrastructions: Unified authentication (Kerberos), Central user directory (LDAP), Active Directory Domain Services
  • Data management: Distributed file system AFS

Offered services include:

  • Email: Access via IMAPs/POP3s and Webmail portal, unsolicited/malicious correspondence filtering and tagging, mailing lists (restricted or open)
  • Websites: School, laboratories, research teams and projects and courses website hosting.

User support:

  • Technical support and information services are provided to academic, teaching and technical staff but also students upon request.
  • Computer labs

The Computer Center exclusively supports the Applied Informatics Laboratory course (1st and 2nd semester) as well as every other laboratory course in need of IT services.

 

Computer Labs

The School of Physics offers three computer labs for course conduction (15, 15 and 17 seats) and an additional open access lab  (20 seats) available to all students of the School on workdays, typically Monday to Friday, 09:30-16:00.

All computer labs are located on the 4th floor of the Faculty of Sciences building expansion (glass building – γυάλινο) and they are supported by the School Staff.

Students may also access the Central Computer Lab of the Aristotle University, located on the ground floor of the Central Library building (30 seats).
